Insurance & Liability Policy

At Long Distance Courier, we take the safety and security of your shipments seriously. Whether you are sending an urgent legal document through our same day courier service UK, booking large parcel delivery, or arranging international courier services Europe, we understand that trust and transparency are essential.

This Insurance & Liability Policy explains the coverage we provide, your responsibilities as a sender, and the options available to protect your items during transit. By booking our courier services UK, you agree to the terms outlined here.

  1. Standard Liability Coverage

Our standard liability for loss or damage to goods is up to £50 per consignment. This is included automatically when you book a parcel delivery UK or express delivery service with us, unless otherwise stated.

This standard cover is designed for everyday shipments of modest value. If your goods are worth more than this amount, we recommend taking out enhanced insurance (see Section 2).

  1. Enhanced Insurance Cover

We offer enhanced insurance options for:

  • Fragile item delivery (e.g., glassware, electronics, antiques)
  • High-value shipments such as jewellery or specialist equipment
  • Medical courier services (temperature-controlled goods)
  • Large parcel delivery and pallet delivery UK
  • Document courier and legal courier items of exceptional importance

Enhanced cover can be purchased at the time of booking, giving you peace of mind that you are fully protected up to the declared value of your goods.

  1. What’s Covered

Insurance cover applies in the event of:

  • Loss of the entire consignment in transit
  • Damage caused by accident, mishandling, or external forces during our custody
  • Theft while the item is in our possession

We take every precaution to avoid these scenarios, including secure handling, GPS-tracked vehicles, and driver vetting.

  1. What’s Not Covered (Exclusions)

Our insurance does not cover:

  • Poor or inadequate packaging by the sender
  • Delay or consequential loss due to traffic, weather, or customs delays
  • Prohibited items (hazardous goods, illegal substances, cash)
  • Perishable goods sent without agreed temperature-controlled courier arrangements
  • Natural deterioration or wear and tear
  • Damage to inherently fragile goods unless packed to industry standards

For details on prohibited items, please see our Terms & Conditions.

  1. Declaring the Value of Your Shipment

To ensure you are fully protected:

  • Declare the true value of your goods when booking
  • Keep proof of purchase or valuation in case of a claim
  • Select the appropriate insurance level to match the value

If you do not declare a value, our standard liability limits will apply.

  1. Claims Procedure

If your parcel is lost or damaged:

  1. Notify our Customer Support Portal within 14 days of the scheduled delivery date.
  2. Provide your booking reference, proof of value, and photographs (if damaged).
  3. Our claims team will investigate and respond within 5 working days.

Approved claims will be paid in line with your selected insurance cover.

  1. Liability Limits for Special Services

Different services have different limits, reflecting the nature of the work:

  • Same day courier UK – up to £50 standard, enhanced cover available
  • Next day delivery UK – up to £50 standard, enhanced cover available
  • International courier services Europe – liability in line with international transport conventions unless additional cover purchased
  • Freight forwarding and pallet delivery UK – liability per tonne under RHA Conditions unless enhanced cover purchased
